With this app unknown file extensions can be searched and identified. In the app accesses a local offline database with over 10,000 extensions. The database can be updated on-line.
- Got a mail with a mail attachment with an unknown (possibly even "dangerous") file extension?
Time to clean up the hard drive but before deleting the file try to check and open it. But what is the right program, if not installed and assigned to the extension ? A careless double-click is not always recommended.
- Extensions such as .doc, .pdf or .exe are almost known by everyone but what about the other tens of thousands unknown file extensions?
After the search, the file extension and all found matches including a description are displayed in a list. Because of different meanings for one extension all related hits will be determined.
Additional information can be obtained by clicking on a hit line. On a detail page the file extension with an explanatory long form, the associated program and the operating systems, the assigned program is available for will be displayed.
There are file extensions with associated programs for Windows, Mac OS, Unix/Linux and OS/2 in the database.

By clicking in the detail page you can quickly start a search on Google and Wikipedia to get more information on the application, like price, download options, vendor etc.
A friend or colleague just in front of the computer and not getting the document to open yet? No problem, just out of the application send him/her an email with all the information (extension, description, assigned program and operating system availability).
Based on the community character of the database (website file-extensions.com) every day about 2-5 new extensions are added or new meanings are added.

Despite the most care and control of the data set, there may be duplicate entries or incorrect entries. The number of these incorrect entries is very small and the webmaster is trying to response and correct the entries immediately after notice via mail.
*** Update Service ***
With the acquisition of the application you will get the ability to synchronize the database with the file-extensions.com servers for the next 12 months for free. After this time, you can extend the synchronization service for another year if you wish. Beside the synchronization functionality the application will work without any time limitation.
